Victory!

I dont know what it is, but despite the crafty bone i inherited from my mother, i could not figure out how in the world to knit or crochet! I kept seeing all these cute scarves and hats and headbands and i didnt want to just buy one- not when i could make one!

But today, today I won! i found a crocheting style that is super easy for beginners (click here if you want to try!) I made this headband ten stitches wide and just kept measuring my head for length, add a cute button, and presto! cuteness success!

I find it hard to stay focused in class (or not fall asleep) sometimes but i found that keeping my hands busy with crocheting kept me more attentive. Most teachers dont mind, though it is nice if you ask them first and make sure you arent distracting those around you.

In other crafting news...

Well, there isn't much new craftiness going on in this lil apartment lately with our hectic class and work schedules but I did make these cute pom poms for Nikki's bridal shower during homework breaks. They are super easy to make and cute for any party or just sprucing up your room- and they are cheap! (Cheap is good in the newly-wed-college-student world!)
Happy crafting!

Beauty is Only as Deep as...

Dreams are a wish your heart make when you’re fast asleep. In dreams you will lose your heartaches, whatever your wish for, you keep. Have faith in your dreams and some day your…
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
Another morning; just like all the rest.  I slip out of bed and gracefully move to the vanity where I examine the results of my beauty sleep. Yes, I’m far too pretty today.
My tummy is too tight, my hair too straight and shiny. My lips are too pink and my skin is too clean. My eyes are far too big and bright and my smile too white and happy.
So I pour myself a bowl of Lucky Charms, top it with whole milk and pop a cinnamon roll in the toaster oven.  I kick my snow white guaranteed-to-make-you-lose-ten-pounds running shoes aside as I sit down on the couch. Balancing my breakfast of champions on one knee, I  turn the TV to the latest talk show drama featuring two women begging through fountains of tears and catlike screams  for the audience to believe that they, not the other #*$@!, is the mother of Mr. Playboy’s baby.
When every last sticky drop has been licked from my bowl, I dig around in the bathroom cabinet for my makeup bag, ready to apply all the newest tips and tricks. I line up my arsenal on the counter: tweezers, brushes, powders, gels, mascara, blush, curlers and pencils.
The eyebrows are the first to go. My trusty tweezers pull and pluck their natural curve into a hardy straight line. Next I pile on foundation, a shade darker than my skin color and I am sure to leave a line along my chin. Wouldn’t want my neck and face to be the same color. I then attack it with powder, which, when the dust cloud dissipates, has effectively settled into every pore, line and crack. Perfect.
My eyes are still too bright so, mouth open, tongue hanging out and two inches from the mirror, I raccoon my eyes with pencil and apply coat after coat after coat of mascara until my eyes are hidden in a curtain of black. I finish by covering the offending pink of my lips with a fashionable shade of nude lipstick.
Then, with curling iron in one hand and Ultimate-mega-hold-your-style-all-day-and-for-eternity hair spray in the other I alternate between curling and spraying, curing and spraying, curling and spraying, until my hair is a mass of stiff, sticky frizz. Nice.
Stepping in to my closet I survey the options, tossing the rejects on to the floor. Yellow or teal shirt? Oh, definitely the red flowy shirt that makes me look prego to go with my fifteen inch stilettos. Pants? No, too concealing. Ooo, leggings! Just have to show off every curve of that cinnamon roll. I sling my hey-look-I’m-a-designer-bag over my shoulder, making sure my chapstick, lipstick, makeup bag, wallet, spork, lunch, iphone, sunglasses, change of clothes, flats, water bottle and the kitchen sink are safely stowed inside.
I teeter out the door, happy with my efforts. I mean, Cinderella had a fairy godmother to dress her up and help her catch her prince. Even that old lady with the sparkly wand knew that beauty is only as deep as your makeup bag.

Elephant Ears

Uhhhh, nope not that kind......

Yes- this kind! The huge, yummy fantasticalness of fried bread butter sugar and cinnamon!

My sister and i had a craving for them today so we looked for a simple recipe and we used this one. They turned out great! not exactly like the ones at the fair but they satisfied our sugary craving.

It takes about an hour and is super fun!

Advice:
-Roll out dough to about a 1/4 of an inch- or thinner, the thinner they are the crispier.
-you really do need 1/2 to 1 inch of oil in your pan! (make the float so they fry nice)
-Medium heat

ENJOY!

Watching for Rainbows

The Lord promised never to flood the entire earth again, that doesn't mean that floods are out of the question as i am finding out.

I have never been in a serious flood and, beyond having to take different routes on my way to campus, i am not seriously effected by the flooding today in Salem which has gotten pretty serious in some areas.

here are some pictures of the flooding:

The flooding got bad enough that the Corban school officials walked around and stopped classes part way through the day to send commuters home safely. I had to stay on campus because my shift at work wasn't canceled but thankfully i live on a hill and i have a clear(ish) route home.

Speaking of home- one of the joys of living in the basement is dealing with flood waters. The outside wall of our bedroom leaks with heavy rainfall. So far we have only dealt with slight dampness- but today, the foot or so closest to the wall was soaking wet! Towels and heaters are clearing the way thankfully.

In other news: I gave blood today! I feel pretty accomplished being that I hate needles. :) It was a good experience, i didn't cry and i wasn't nervous but i did almost blackout. I don't know if i'll give again- i guess i probably will, once the memory of that needle fades a bit.

Praying that you all are safe and well. May God bless and protect you!

So it's been a while

Hey friends,
What to say, I've been very busy! The Christmas season was fantastic- first Christmas with my husband! So much has been happening so i wont try to cover it all, just know that God is good and we are happy and i have been very craft this past month!

We are now on kittens number 4 and 5: Cee Cee and Smokey.

I also turned 21! whoot whoot! Not that this birthday is much different than the others. Normally, in our crazy wonderful American society, new-of-age kids go out and get smashed- sound like fun? nope. :) I have a few reasons not to drink- so excuse me while i get all serious on you and know that i'm not being judgmental.

First of all, I am on contract. At my school we sign a piece of paper saying we wont drink or do drugs etc. so that we can attend. I gave my word, therefore i wont.
Secondly, my dad use to be an alcoholic. {Praise the Lord he has been clean and sober for over 7 years and is the most Godly man i know.} With that in my genes i dont want to risk it.
Thirdly, I don't think it is necessary to drink. I like to have control over my body and mind-alcohol doesn't help with that. :) I have also seen how ugly and stupid people can get and i dont want to look like that. I think i'd rather have a Dr. Pepper, thanks.
Fourthly, I want to represent my God honorably and not cause others to stumble.

Let me make myself clear-DRINKING ALCOHOL IS NOT WRONG, it is NOT a sin. But it is a sin to get drunk.  So go ahead and toast at a wedding, have a cocktail with your friends, have a beer with the super bowl- but do it in moderation and with consideration of who you are influencing- and order me a Dr. Pepper.

So how did i celebrate? I spent the day with my mom and sisters. We went shopping, at yummy food and i got my ears pierced for a second time. {i'd been talking about it forever and finally did it!} Jeff got home and we all at pasta and my vanilla peppermint cake.
Classes start up again in about a week. I'm probably the only student waiting with baited breath for the syllabi to go up online. See, i want to start on some of my assignments early- I'm crazy, yes i know. I have already started reading one of the novels for a literature class. I have 4 lit classes next semester! phew! Read read read read read read! I just need a comfy Papazan chair to curl up in ;)

And now for an up date in pictures- enjoy :)
